Live Mountain
Music
Weekend visitors to The Orchard are quickly
drawn to the happy sounds of live music and dancing
feet. Every
Saturday The Orchard showcases country and bluegrass bands that
proudly display their
Appalachian roots.
Western North Carolina is
a virtual fountain of mountain music, pure as the water in our
mountain streams. Nashville may be the big river for country music,
but The Orchard, other nearby music venues and the front porches of
mountain cabins are the headwaters of that music.
On Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons,
from 12:30-4:30, local bluegrass, gospel and country
musicians gather on The Orchard stage to bring Appalachian music
to appreciative audiences of all ages and cultural backgrounds.
Recently The Orchard Foundation added informal "front porch pickin" at The Orchard Wednesday and Thursday afternoons, 1:45-3:15. The music provides an atmosphere ripe for foot stompin’, two
steppin’, cloggin’, or just enjoyin'!
Though we pay the musicians, the music is
free for our visitors. In 2008 over 60 different musical groups
took the stage to keep the mountain music tradition alive.
